Treatment of acute stroke

THE PROBLEM

Acute stroke is the leading cause of serious long-term disability. Worldwide 15 mio people suffer an acute stroke each year, of which one third die and one third become permanently disabled. Early restoration of blood supply to the brain is the key determinant of the outcome, making prompt treatment decision critical.

THE REAL PROBLEM

Determination of treatment requires complex image computation, operator intervention, and expert personnel to assess probable stroke outcome. This prolongs door-to-needle time and limits treatment decisions to specialized hospitals.

THE SOLUTION

Next generation medical image analysis tools target the problems with both timing and subjectivity via data mining algorithms. Further, connecting medical imaging with analysis of big data via supervised learning makes the solution 'intelligent'.
